Brazil – Dunga: “If all goes well, I have three more matches to play with Brazil”
Statements from Ozoir-la-Ferrière (south east of PARIS) on Monday 29 June 1998
Carlos DUNGA (8), captain
“If all goes well, I have three more matches to play with BRAZIL. I’m 34 years old, and I’ve played for this team for eleven years. I already won one World Cup in the US in 1994, but I’m disappointed not to have won Olympic gold. I dream of playing in the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, but I have to wait for a decision from the Olympic Committee regarding players over 23. I am leaving the BRAZIL team after the World Cup, but I’m going to fight tooth and nail for us to be world champions once again, and I won’t hesitate to do what I have to do so that everyone plays to the best of his abilities. If we play in the final, TAFFAREL (1) and I will break the record for the number of BRAZIL team World Cup matches played. Until now, this record was held by Jairzinho (16 matches in the 1970, 1974, and 1978 World Cups).”
