Germany – B. Vogts: “We've built up a lot of stamina”
“Our chances to qualify for the semi finals are identical to those of CROATIA.
Our strength of character can be easily explained. A great deal of work has been undertaken during our preparation in Finland. We’ve built up a lot of stamina.
In reference to statements by Trappatoni, who said certain players could be compared to ’empty bottles’, I would suggest that the bottles are in fact quite full, when it comes to their physical and mental capacities.
Andreas MOELLER will remain on the substitutes bench for the next match. He hasn’t been convincing enough with his game. Several times during his last match, I had to remind him to play as I’d asked. Some players have a hard time putting up with the cold or the frost… others find it hard to be on the substitutes’ bench.
Concerning the ARGENTINA-ENGLAND match, it certainly appears as though the Argentine players have become more focussed and more determined.
The next match will be my 100th as a coach. I’ve presided over 66 victories, 22 draws and 11 defeats. I simply hope we can celebrate in the same manner as for a 100th international for a player.
I take my hat off to Ulf KRISTEN, who, despite being recognised as the best striker for the Bundesliga, is playing the role of Joker without complaining. It’s great to have someone with that sort of mentality in the team.”
