With the Germany team, Wednesday 1 July

A Well Watered Return!

The prestigious Vista Palace hotel at Roquebrune near Monaco was the setting for a well-watered evening to celebrate the arrival of the team from MONTPELLIER. Fritz Westerman, chef for the GERMANY team was celebrating his birthday. After receiving his gifts, he was “enticed” to go for a swim in the pool… in his chef’s uniform! So as not to leave him feeling lonely, Flavio Battisti (who looks after the day to day running of the team) and Manni Drexler (ex-pro who takes care of equipment), joined him.

Spaghetti and Superstition

While spaghetti may be important for the Italians, it’s also an integral part of the daily menu for the GERMANY team… to the point of being part of a “snack” menu to be had just before the match, accompanied with coffee. The explanation is simple: the first GERMANY team to have won the World Cup in 1954 in Switzerland had come up with the idea of this very “particular” snack menu, and since then, the tradition has been carried-on.

4-man Match

Every day, there’s a four-man competition … but of a less physical nature: Olaf THON (6), Jens JEREMIES (13), Dietmar HAMANN (16) and Stefan REUTER (19) are fanatical card players: so much so, that they’re often to be found alone crouched over the table, or even on the bus, finishing their game. Just goes to show, there’s more than football that can move a man.
