The first penalty shot missed during eight years of the World Cup

The penalty missed by the Yugoslavian Predrag MIJATOVIC (9) during the last sixteen match in TOULOUSE against the NETHERLANDS is the first penalty shot missed during a World Cup match, since the one by the Italian Gianluca Vialli when his team played against the UNITED STATES on 14 June 1990. Between these two events, thirty-eight penalties have been blown up and scored during the eight years and fifteen days of World Cup history. The striker of the “Real” would have been happy not to have gone down in history for such a feat.
