Spain’s veteran goalkeeper Andoni Zubizarreta announced here late on Friday that he is to retire after this summer’s World Cup finals. The 36-year-old, who holds the national record of 123 international appearances, announced his decision after his club side Valencia went down 3-2 to Tenerife on Friday night.

Zubizarretta, who formerly played for Alaves, Athletic Bilbao and Barcelona, will be appearing in his fourth World Cup finals.
