FRANCE 98 – Jamaica – F. Simpson: “We're playing for the future of Jamaica”
“We’re not nervous, we can’t wait to play. It could be a big problem and even a disaster if we lose. We’re going into this match with the aim of winning. We’re not here to represent the Caribbean, we’re playing for the future of JAMAICA. Up till now the World Cup has been very well organised. The French are doing a good job and we should all be grateful.”
“The match against ARGENTINA will be mentally tough; they’re one of the best teams in the world. But we’re hoping for a victory, because if we win tomorrow, we can then beat JAPAN and qualify for the round of sixteen. For Sunday’s match, we’ll let the Argentineans come to us, as they are under pressure to win. The most important thing in my view is to be ready physically. That’s even more important than tactics. Four years of preparation is a long time, and we didn’t come here just to make an appearance. We’ll make a big team effort. The first match taught us that when you’ve got an opportunity to score, you’ve got to take it without hesitating. That’s what we’re going to do on Sunday.”
