François OMAM BIYICK (7) captain

“The draw against AUSTRIA (Group B) is a huge disappointment for the whole team, because we lost two points which could cost us our qualification. We’re looking to get the three points for a win against ITALY (Group B), who are a really strong side.

It’s going to be a tough match, and probably a decisive one in our tight group. We’re going to have to play a strong, attacking game–that’s what will make the difference.”

Jacques SONGO’O (1):

“We’re going into the ITALY match in a calm state of mind. It’s an important match and that’s why we have to win. We don’t have any particular worries as far as this match is concerned: we’ll still be playing football, whether the opponent is considered weak or strong. Saying that, the refereeing has to be fair.

The stakes are high for both countries seeing as all of us in the group have one point. We can’t lose this second match. I’m really sure that we’ll give it everything we’ve got.”

Marcel MAHOUVE (19):

“We’re going into the match as winners. This match against ITALY could give us our qualification, so we’re going to give it our all.

I’m further motivated by the fact of playing on my club home ground (Montpellier H.S.C.). It’s fantastic to take part in such a competition: I’d know how to make the most of it, and it would be great to enter the tournament on familiar ground. ITALY has reputed players like Roberto BAGGIO (18) and Alessandro DEL PIERO (10), but we know what we need to do to win.”

Rigobert SONG (4)

“I’m not going to play under any extra pressure–it’s quite the opposite. It’s even more motivating to be playing for CAMEROON (Group B) when playing against ITALY. CAMEROON has real and legitimate potential to come out on top of such a tough group.

Our team commitment is as strong as ever, despite injuries on important players like Marc-Vivien FOE and Serge KWETCHE (13).

There will be twenty-two winners on the team.”
