FRANCE 98 – Scotland – J. Collins: “Our supporters are truly wonderful”
How do the Scots intend to beat NORWAY (Group A) on Tuesday 16 June in BORDEAUX?
“Firstly we need to compete with them physically, but we’re ready for that. We’ll have to stay well organised in defence, not play too many high balls and keep the ball firmly on the ground”.
Do you feel extra pressure, bearing in mind that you absolutely need to win if you are to have any hope in getting through to the next rounds?
“Not really, no. I think the Norwegians need points as badly as we do, if not more so. Their next match is against the Brazilians, and if they don’t beat us, if they don’t win three points, their World Cup qualification chances will be practically over. We will still have the possibility of beating MOROCCO”.
What do you think of the fantastic popular support you have from your very well-behaved supporters, compared to your English neighbours who are plagued by hooliganism?
“Yes, our supporters are truly wonderful. It’s marvellous for a player to be cheered on by the best supporters in the world – we feel very proud as we go out onto the pitch. We intend to do our utmost to get the result our fans deserve.”
