FRANCE 98 – Enzo Francescoli admires Zinedine Zidane

Comments made at the International Media Centre (CIM)

Enzo Francescoli, the Uruguayan forward and captain during the 1986 and 1990 World Cups, and former player of Racing de Paris and Olympique de Marseille, is also Zinedine ZIDANE’s (10) idol.

“During our World Club Championship match (River Plate-Juventus: 0-1) in Tokyo in 1996, ZIDANE told me I was his model player, and that I inspired him in his game, particularly while I played for Marseille in 1990-91, which was very moving (ZIDANE comes from Marseille). What I think of ZIDANE as a player today is simple: he is the man. Zinedine has a skill level that is way above average, and I am certain he will have a great World Cup with the FRANCE team. I can see certain similarities between his game now and mine when I was his age.”
