| I was born on 18 May 1996 and on 27 November acquired «legal status» when I was named Footix.Several thousand «godparents» chose a name for me in a nationwide competition set up by the CFO.
I am proud to possess a name which has found favour with children in no time at all, and which places me firmly at the heart of the great family of world football. And I keenly look forward to seeing the millions of football supporters who can now reserve their seats for the 1998 World Cup. A wonderful celebration awaits us. Meanwhile, I join with the whole French Organising Committee team in wishing everyone a very happy and prosperous 1997.
