FRANCE 98 – Last sales

22 April – opening of individual ticket sales

At 8 a.m. French time (GMT + 1) on April 22 1998, the French Organising Committee will be opening reservations for the 110,000 individual tickets still available for matches in the World Cup first round (except for the Opening match) and round of sixteen.

Reservations will be open to the public in the 18 countries in the European Economic Space (Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Finland, France, Great Britain, Greece, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Norway, the Netherlands, Portugal and Sweden), on condition that they have an address in one of these countries.

Reservations may only be made by telephone and will follow the “first come first served” principle, with a limit of 4 tickets per match and per person, and a limit of 16 tickets overall for any one person.

The French Organising Committee will be selling these tickets in compliance with stringent regulations governing public safety and which apply to the positioning of spectators inside stadiums, in particular seating supporters of two opposing teams in stands which are not next to each other. For the purposes of the matches in the first round, a person shall be considered to be a supporter of the team whose country of origin is the same as that of the address given by the supporter when buying a ticket. For the round of sixteen, the CFO will base its calculations on the teams likely to be playing a particular match from the composition of the 8 Groups in the competition.

To make reservations open to as many people as possible, the French Organising Committee has set up a telephone platform manned by 90 operators, 60 of which will speak several languages and deal specifically with callers from abroad.
