REPORT

Organisation up – date at “D – 365”
A year to the day from the 16th Football World Cup kick-off,
the French Organising Committee revealed FRANCE 98’s future plans in a little more detail. It was also an opportunity to present the 1,000 journalists who had come from all over the world with an assessment of the CFO’s work, for the first time. This is the moment, if ever there was one, to start mobilising forces within the French Organising Committee, in the host cities and all over the country.

HEART OF THE MATTER

It’s now already five years since 2 July 1992, when FIFA conferred the responsibility for staging the 16th World Cup in France. The French Organising Committee is still as strongly motivated as it was on that very first day. We know that though much has already been accomplished, we still have a massive task ahead of us. But we are totally confident. We have kept to the deadlines we set ourselves. We shall continue to do our best and be as vigilant as we can in organising the event and pursuing a break-even budget. We are now going straight into a highly operational phase, where our activities in general will be concentrating on the specific requirements of each venue. We are highly aware that the success of FRANCE 98 depends on 2 issues: water-tight organisation, and all-out enthusiasm. These two objectives will be the driving force behind all that we undertake in the coming months. So that FRANCE 98 can be everything we dreamed always because our hearts are really in it.
