The Fédération Française de Football organises the following competitions:  

Professional championships organised by the Ligue Nationale de Football:   

  • Division 1 : 20 clubs 
  • Division 2 : 22 clubs 

Amateur championships   

  • Championnat National 1 : 2 groups of 18 clubs 
  • Championnat National 2 : 4 groups of 18 clubs 
  • Championnat National 3 : 8 groups of 18 clubs 
  • Championnats National Fèminins : N1A, N1B and Inter-regional, 84 clubs 
  • Championnat National – 17 year-olds : 85 clubs 
  • Championnat National – 15 year-olds : 142 clubs 
  • Championnat National Corporatif

  • Coupe de France : over 6,500 clubs each season 
  • Coupe de la Ligue (organized by the LNF) 
  • Coupe Nationale des Juniors (or Challenge Gambardella) : 4,00 clubs each season 
  • Coupes Nationales des Poussins à 7, des Corporatifs 
  • Coupe Fédérale des Cadettes ˆ 7

The French Cup  

  * Created in 1917-1918, the French Cup is now an institution. A real national football festival fascinates everyone : each match permits amateur clubs to meet top clubs, and sometimes beat them, producing unexpected exploits which render this competition unique on the French football scene. As a proof of this competition’s success, each cup final fills the Parc des Princes

  * The French First Division Championship   The French First Division Championship turned professional in 1932 and brings together each year the best clubs in the country. Today it is considered one of the top European and world championships. Its success is such that there were 5 million spectators during the 1994-1995 season.
