Matthaus to bow out after World Cup MUNICH, Germany, May 12 (AFP) Lothar Matthaus, recalled after almost a four-year absence, said Tuesday he would definitely step down from international football after the World Cup finals. “That will be it for ever after the World Cup,” the 37-year-old said after Germany coach Berti Vogts gave him a surprise recall for his fifth World Cup. Matthaus says he has now patched up his quarrel with Jurgen Klinsmann who succeeded him as Germany captain.
