March 1997 – N°23 – Partnership – ENGLISH

On 4 and 5 March this year, the French Organising Committee invited the eight Official Suppliers of FRANCE 98 (Crédit Agricole, Danone, EDS, France Telecom, Hewlett-Packard, La Poste, Manpower and Sybase) to participate in a first working seminar at Lyon.

This meeting, led by the Marketing-Partners department, was set up to take stock of preparations for the World Cup to date. Thanks to a series of presentations given by CFO Managing Director Jacques Lambert and the other departmental heads, everybody present came away with a better idea of what goes into the organisation behind the event: from ticket sales and volunteer recruitment to a marketing update and a sneak preview of the forthcoming FRANCE 98 Website. It was, in short, a guided tour of all the work being done by the CFO.

A visit to the nearby stadium closed the first day’s activities. This gave everyone a chance of appreciating the extent of the building work and improvements being carried out to make the World Cup as successful an event as possible. Kitted out, then, not in football boots, but in “civvies,” the participants were able to enjoy a stroll around the sacred turf of the Stade Gerland.

The following day the delegations from the Official Suppliers took part in theme workshops led by the various CFO project managers. It was a golden opportunity to exchange valuable information and to build on working relations between FRANCE 98 and its partners. These two rewarding days showed the high level of motivation present in these eight companies of international standing, as they work alongside the French Organising Committee.
