Martinique-born defender David Regis was granted United States citizenship earlier this week and will make his debut for the American team against Kuwait in a friendly international here on Sunday, officials said Friday. Regis, 29, who plays in Germany for Karlsruhe but has been married to an American for three years, had been left a place in the United States’ 22-man squad for next month’s World Cup finals in France pending his gaining citizenship.
The match against Kuwait is the Americans’ penultimate warm-up before the World Cup.
