FRANCE 98 – USA – S. Sampson: “We exhibited a terrible inefficiency in front of the goal”
Comments from Pornic (Loire-Atlantique)
“We are out of this competition, but all the same we have shown that we know how to play football. I’ve always said that the second match would be the most important, which is why I took the risk of playing such an offensive game against IRAN. At no point did I doubt their ability. We’ve been very unlucky but it must also be said that we exhibited a terrible inefficiency in front of the goal. We’re going to have to do a lot work to overcome this lack of precision and to make our opportunities pay off. We need to promote soccer in the U.S.A. to attract athletes to the game. We need to find strong players who can take the initiative on the pitch. As for my future, that is up to the chairman of our Federation to decide. Our aim in the match against YUGOSLAVIA (NANTES, Thursday 25 June) is to prove that we can compete with one of the best teams in Europe.”
