Spanish goalkeeper Andoni Zubizarreta has a pulled muscle in his left leg and will not play in Spain’s World Cup warm-up against Ireland next week.

The 36-year-old, who has 123 caps for Spain, will not be able to play for up to eight days said a team doctor. “We are working to have him perfectly fit for our first Group match against Nigeria on June 13 in Nantes,” said team doctor Genaro Borras. “It would be too big a risk to play him against Ireland next Tuesday,added Borras.

Zubizarreta was injured during training earlier this week. “I suddenly felt a pain and it gave me a bad feeling for two years ago the same thing happened. But I will be fit again in a week,” said the Spanish veteran, who plans to retire after France ’98.
