FRANCE 98 – Romania set up camp in Albi

After settling into their rooms at the hotel “La Réserve” (part of the Relais Château chain) in Albi (in the Tarn Department), the members of the Romanian delegation went to Albi Town Hall on Sunday June 7th, just after 5.00 pm, for a press conference, introduced by the Mayor, Philippe Bonnecarrère. This was followed by the presentation of the team to the residents of Albi. At the Place de Vigan, where nearly 2000 people were waiting, the players were happy to carry out an impromptu autograph signing session. On the podium in the main square of the Tarn Prefecture, the Romanian coach Anghel IORDANESCU expressed his wish, ” to qualify from Group G and progress as far as possible. We are counting on the presence of the inhabitants of Albi, at the Stadium de TOULOUSE, to help us beat ENGLAND.” Afterwards, the delegation went on to the Rigaud stadium, which will be their base until June 23rd, where 300 spectators were waiting to watch a training session which was in fact cancelled at the last minute. Finally, they returned to “La Reserve”, at around 7pm.
