World Cup FRANCE 98 – Press Releases

12 December 1995

The 16th World Cup has a slogan.
FRANCE 98: The beauty of a world at play.

“FRANCE 98 will be everybody’s Cup, a truly World Cup”. This statement of belief by Fernand Sastre and Michel Platini, Presidents of the French Organising Committee, is echoed in the slogan selected for the 16th World Cup, and just announced by the committee: “FRANCE 98. The beauty of a world at play”.

The slogan reinforces the message suggested by the World Cup logo, a sun-football rising over the world, symbolising the planetary importance of the event, and brings an additional dimension to the communication campaign: uniting the world behind a generous vision of sport, and football in particular, while at the same time giving force and conviction to the values of universality, excitement and sharing that the 16th World Cup has adopted.
