MICHELIN, Official Tyre of the 1998 World Cup
A swell partnership in official attire
On 14 April this year, Edouard Michelin, Fernand Sastre and Michel Platini signed an agreement making Michelin the “Official Tyre of the 1998 World Cup” Michel Platini, Edouard Michelin and Fernand Sastre.
This is a title that Michelin, which sells more tyres than any other company in the world, can use throughout the five continents. It is the first contract to be made official in the World Cup Official Services and Products group. “We are tremendously pleased,” said Fernand Sastre during the signing ceremony, “that a group of Michelin’s stature is getting the ball rolling for us in this new partnership line.” He added, “I see this as additional proof, if there had ever been any doubt, that all the major French companies are right behind us for this historic event.”
FRANCE 98, another deal cemented Lafarge, world leader in construction materials, has now become the fifth Official Equipment Supplier to FRANCE 98 whose partnership programmes for the coming World Cup continue to attract interest. The Lafarge Group, with a workforce of 37,000, is active in 45 countries and posts revenues of FF 35 billion.
International currency
The Paris Mint, la Monnaie de Paris, has begun selling its World Cup coin collection outside France. The foreign market will, in fact, make up the majority of expected sales for the series that comprises 15 gold and silver coins in all.
The international presentation tour of the collection began in Luxembourg on 20 March this year, then went on to Belgium, where it was displayed on 25 March in the presence of the CFO co-President Fernand Sastre. The presentations will continue in the coming weeks in Europe (Portugal) and Asia (Japan), continents that are home to a large number of coin collectors.
Official paper
The CFO now has its paper in order! Arjo Wiggins, world leader in high-quality paper manufacture, rubber-stamped supplier for printers, publishers, advertisers and companies using office material, as well as being a specialist in special quality papers for well-known brands like Arches, Canson and Conqueror, has just joined the French Organising Committee’s club of commercial affiliates by becoming an Official Equipment Supplier.
Arjo Wiggins, which was Official Paper Supplier for the Albertville Winter Olympics in 1992, brings its wealth of experience in global-scale events to the CFO, and will be supplying 500 tonnes of paper needed by the Committee for its myriad publications, in addition to the vitally-important “tamper-proof” paper to be used in issuing the 2.5 million spectator tickets.
