Roberto Baggio claimed on Saturday that life begins at 31, after joining forces with Brazilian ace Ronaldo at Inter Milan.

Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti announced on Friday that Baggio will be joining his club for two years, with an option on a third year, as the UEFA Cup winners prepare a Dream Team attack. Baggio, whose 22-goal performance for Bologna last season won him a place here at the World Cup finals, said: “It shows that life can start again at 31. I’m really happy to be playing with Ronaldo next season. On paper, we’ll make a great couple. But in practice it will be more difficult because everybody will be expecting a great deal from us.”  Baggio arrives at Inter after passing over Moratti’s club in the summer of 1995, in favour of neighbours and archrivals AC Milan, when he left Juventus.

“The fact that Moratti has called me back after three years must mean that he has faith in me,” Baggio said. “I’m also looking forward to playing in the European Champions League, and the fans will obviously be expecting us to go one better than last season in the Serie A-and that means winning the title.”

Baggio is not the only one looking forward to next September-his future strike partner has already made it clear he can’t wait. “I’m glad, because Inter are a club who should aim to to buy top players,” said Ronaldo, who is a full 10 years younger than Baggio. “Now it’s going to be easier to beat Juventus and win the championship.” Ronaldo added: “I don’t know when I’ll see him… perhaps in the World Cup final… Or maybe I’ll ring him before then.” Inter are believed to have paid a modest 2.5 million dollars for Baggio, whose annual salary though is closer to three million dollars.
