Key Italy midfielder Demetrio Albertini has been ordered two days’ rest after pulling up in training with a thigh strain.
Albertini suffered the injury while training on Sunday, and to avoid any risks national team doctors here ordered him to rest until Wednesday.
Problems in midfield are the recurring nightmare of national coach Cesare Maldini, who has long admitted that it his weakest department. Albertini is the central pillar of a midfield trio, along with Dino Baggio and Roberto Di Matteo, which has been vital to the team in recent seasons. Possible replacements could be Lazio’s Diego Fuser or Juventus’ Antonio Conte.
