98 RADIO FRANCE
The French Organising Committee’s Associate Radio StationOn 3 October 1997, at 250 days from kick-off to the World Cup, Michel BOYON and Gilbert DENOYAN, respectively President and acting Managing Director of Radio France, announced the birth of 98 Radio France, FRANCE 98’s associate radio station, in the presence of Fernand SASTRE, Michel PLATINI and Jacques LAMBERT, respectively Presidents and Managing Director of the French Organising Committee. The editor-in-chief of the station is to be Jacques VENDROUX, Sports Editor for France Inter.
98 Radio France, to which listeners can tune in as from 8 June 1998, will be a football programme, of course, but will also keep its audience in touch with general information, services and entertainment connected with the event.
98 Radio France will be in action every day, from 8 June to 13 July 1998, from 6 a.m. to 1 in the morning, on France Inter’s longwave frequency (1852 m).
The programmes will fall into four main categories :
broadcasts of the 64 matches, with commentary and all the results;
useful services for all the supporters, in several languages ;
profiles of not only the cities and regions where the matches are taking place, but also the participating countries ;
football discussions with well-known figures from many different walks of life.
Radio France will be calling on nine famous players to contribute to the programme. All former members of the international French football side, this consultancy team will consist of : Dominique BATHENAY, Patrick BATTISTON, Maxime BOSSIS, Jean-François DOMERGUE, Alain GIRESSE, Eric PECOUT, Dominique ROCHETEAU, Jean TIGANA and Marius TRESOR.
