Official Electrical Appliances of FRANCE 98Fernand Sastre and Michel Platini, Presidents of the French Organising Committee of the FIFA World Cup, and Kwang-Ho Cho, President of LG Electronics Europe Operations, have today made official a partnership agreement, in the category “Official Products and Services “, by which the LG brand becomes the Official Electrical Appliance of the 16th FIFA World Cup.
LG Electronics is one of the largest manufacturers world-wide in the areas of electronics for the general public, domestic appliances, air conditioning and information technology. The whole of its divisions realised a turnover of FF 53 billion in 1996, with a workforce of 35,000. LG Electronics sells its products under the brand names LG and Goldstar.
For LG Electronics, this partnership with FRANCE 98 represents a unique opportunity to increase LG brand recognition throughout the world. Indeed, LG Electronics is the first and only Korean partner of FRANCE 98 and as such is already well-placed for the 2002 World Cup in Korea.
LG Electronics is the main constituent of the LG Group conglomerate, the third Korean group to have realised a turnover of FF 404 billion in 1996, with a world-wide staff of 126,000 people.
Created in 1991, LG Goldstar France (a turnover of FF 650 million in 1996) is the French subsidiary of LG Electronics.
With the signing of this agreement, LG Electronics becomes the 8th company to join the group of Official Products and Services of the World Cup, after Air France, American Power Conversion, CPW/Nestlé Cereal, Cyanamid, Lavazza, Michelin and Total.
