7 November 1995

La Poste, the Official Mail Carrier of the 1998 World Cup.

An agreement has just been signed between La Poste and FRANCE 98, the French Organising Committee for the 1998 World Cup.

Under the terms of this agreement, La Poste becomes the Official Mail Carrier of the 1998 World Cup. La Poste will provide FRANCE 98 with its expertise and know-how. It will propose, with its specialised subsidiaries, all of its products and services already available to enterprises or that will be developed especially for the World Cup organisation.

In this framework, La Poste will mail the 2.5 million tickets for the competition to destinations throughout France and the world. Additionally, an integrated mail processing service will be installed at the Committee headquarters and at selected official sites.

Also, a special philatelic programme will be developed for the World Cup allowing La Poste to commercialise stamps and the official philatelic products (1st day envelopes, inserts, souvenirs) as well as pre-stamped envelopes. This programme will include 12 shows of which the first will take place the 12th of December 1995, day of the qualifying draw in Paris for the preliminary competition of the 1998 World Cup. This day marks the real official kick off of this world-wide event.

For La Poste, the partnership is an opportunity not only to increase its mail revenue and demonstrate its know-how to existing and potential customers, but also to make an effective contribution to the success of the World Cup, the organisation of which is a real challenge for France.

La Poste joins EDS, Hewlett-Packard and France Télécom in the prestigious group of Official Suppliers of FRANCE 98 – French Organising Committee of the 1998 World Cup.
