“I come before you here today to say farewell to football. Farewell to football fields, concentration, injuries, criticism. I thank all those who have helped me to better understand this sport through a gesture, a word or a phrase. I also wish to thank my family, my friends and my wife, all of whom have always been there when I was at my lowest. Javier (CLEMENTE), thank you for believing in me and supporting me through the hard times. Football is a very tough sport but it has brought me joy. (…) I am proud to have managed my football career in the way I have done. My time is over, I must leave. Thank you.”
