FRANCE 98 – Nigeria – T. West: “We will have to work harder in our next games”
Statements from Bellinglise:
Peter RUFAÏ (1):
“I’m happy with my performance against SPAIN, I’ve got nothing to blame myself for as regards the two goals I let in. You can never say beforehand that you’re not going to let in a goal. SPAIN are a good side, they hadn’t lost for a long time. In a game goals are there to be scored and also to be saved. The goalkeeper’s job is to stop his opponents’ shots; you must never underestimate the opposition forwards.”
Daniel AMOKACHI (14):
“Four years ago, we hammered BULGARIA 3-0, but that doesn’t mean we can do it again. The two sides have changed since then. We will do our best and try to score as many goals as we can. We’ve worked hard to make it possible for Africa finally to win the World Cup; now is the time for it to happen. There are no small teams in the World Cup. Everyone has worked very hard to get here, so they all deserve to be where they are.”
Taribo WEST (6):
“We will have to work harder in our next games. Now that we’ve beaten SPAIN, it will be more difficult for us because people will have to take us seriously. We are a strong team that can make Africa proud. Our warm-up matches weren’t so good but we’ve overcome the psychological problems they caused us and we’re now right back in contention.”
