FRANCE 98 – Amokachi possible captain of Nigeria against Paraguay
Daniel AMOKACHI (14) may wear the Eagles captain’s armband for the first time in the team’s final World Cup group match against PARAGUAY in TOULOUSE next week. This is thanks to the two yellow cards received by UCHE (5), the team’s skipper, in the matches against SPAIN and BULGARIA respectively.
Confirming this, UCHE said: “Naturally AMOKACHI is one of the oldest players who are still very much around, outside Peter RUFAI (1), Augustine EGUAVOEN (17) and Ben IROHA (19), who just came back recently to the national team. So, I feel he should wear the band.”
The skipper, while regretting his absence from the next game, is nevertheless optimistic, having captained the team to the second round. “I’ll be back in the next game, so just watch out because I will have rested well and prepared myself for the task ahead. That is the only consolation I have. Nonetheless, I have no regrets whatsoever for the two incidents that brought me the cards.”
