Austria-Chile – M. Salas: “We are very disappointed by today’s result” 17.06.98 22h08 CET Match No.19: Statements from the CHILE (Group B) players
Ivan ZAMORANO (9):
“I owe my goal today to Marcelo SALAS (11), the best Chilean striker. Nonetheless, there are more than two players in the team: there are 22 of us and we’re all representing CHILE very proudly. We have to do all we can in the next match against CAMEROON (group B) on Tuesday 23 June in NANTES and play together. We should have 6 points but we only have 2 and that mustn’t dishearten us. In my opinion, no team is dominating this world cup. No one is invincible and like SALAS, I think that only NIGERIA (group D) have surprised us so far.”
Marcelo SALAS (11):
“We are very disappointed by today’s result. To concede a goal in the closing minutes isn’t easy but we won’t lose hope for the next match against CAMEROON in NANTES. We’ll do our utmost to qualify. There’s no outstanding team and generally those that have won haven’t done so easily.”
Moises VILLARROEL (15):
“It’s too painful to have lost the match in the last minute. What we lacked was a bit of luck. With a win we were qualified. Against ITALY we were already strong and didn’t deserve a draw; today neither. As of now we have to think of the match against CAMEROON.”
Javier MARGAS (5):
“We always give it all we’ve got, yet at the end of the match we lose 2 points. After the match against AUSTRIA, we should have had 6 points.”
Cristian CASTANEDA (2):
“It’s always the same thing, we should have won and we didn’t. Against CAMEROON, we’ve got to get the 3 points at all costs.”
