FRANCE 98 – Austria – report of the training session on Monday 8 June
AUSTRIA trained on Monday 8 June at the Bergerie stadium in Arsac, near BORDEAUX. The outfield players conducted several ten pass moves. The goalkeepers on the other hand, practised on corners and crosses in the penalty area. Wolfgang FEIERSINGER (5) returned to the dressing room a little earlier than his team-mates due to a slight knock which, according to the team doctor Ernst Schopp, was nothing serious. Hannes REINMAYR (14) trained normally, the knock he received to his left knee on Saturday 6th June during the first warm-up seemingly now forgotten.
During the training session the Austrians had their heart beats monitored by a monitoring system, so the team’s medical staff could spot any problems. Due to the long domestic season the players have endured it is important to identify any health problems as soon as possible so they can be treated accordingly.
At the end of the session, Andreas HERZOG (10) and the coach Herbert PROHASKA answered some journalists’ questions. PROHASKA explained that he had no yet decided on his starting line-up to face CAMEROON (Group B) on Thursday 11 June at 9:00 PM in TOULOUSE. He added that the players were all in form and that he was anxious to get the tournament underway. HERZOG (10) declared his great will to play. The Austrian playmaker did not play much for his team Werder Bremen (GER) this season due to a serious injury to a toe ligament
