FRANCE 98 – Cameroon – C. Leroy: “We'll have to maintain constant pressure on Chile throughout the game”

Comments from NANTES

“We’ll have to maintain constant pressure on CHILE throughout the game if we are to shake their defence. I told the team to enjoy themselves – and to concentrate on their own game rather than that of the other team, which they did against ITALY. After that game, some of our players waited to be photographed with BAGGIO (18) and MALDINI (3). I find this very refreshing, it shows our friendly attitude. KALLA’s (5) suspension means I’ll have to bring in SONG (4), WOME (3) or NJANKA (6), but I still need some time to think about it as all these solutions have certain limitations. I’m worried that CHILE could have the advantage in Tuesday’s game: they might just stay back in defence until they get control of the ball – consequently, we don’t want to attack too much. OLEMBE (20) will be a key player because he normally plays at La Beaujoire stadium. He could be the perfect leader but he’s still too uncertain on the pitch. We’re also good at winning the ball back – that’s something every player will have to concentrate on. Whatever happens, playing in a World Cup is a real thrill. I wake up every morning thinking how lucky I am to be part of it.”
