FRANCE 98 – Cameroon's coach is “ready to celebrate the union with the World Cup.”

Speaking from TOULOUSE

CAMEROON (Group B) ‘s coach, Claude LEROY, arrived in TOULOUSE on the team bus on Wednesday morning June 10th. The team will play its first match at the Stadium, against AUSTRIA (Thursday 11th June 1998 at 9.00 pm). On his arrival at the “Latitudes” hotel in Seilh (close to TOULOUSE), Claude LEROY declared he was “ready to celebrate the World Cup like a wedding”. Questioned on the uncertain weather, he pointed out that : “Rain on the wedding day makes a happy marriage ” as the French proverb says.

Claude LEROY was also delighted for another reason : “I have a squad with pretty exceptional intellectual qualities. They behave very well, which makes every day a pleasure.” He trusts his players to prepare themselves : “It is by being paternalistic that you will succeed. The players know the stakes, and they must do everything to be at their absolute best tomorrow at nine o’clock. By quarter to eleven it will be too late.”
