FRANCE 98 – Colombia – C. Valderrama: “We fear only one thing: Henry Kasperczak”

Carlos VALDERRAMA (10, captain) :

I’m really delighted to be back in MONTPELLIER, I have nothing but good memories of friends, lively meals and the wonderful atmosphere after every match. I’m very touched to see all this again. I was happily surprised to see the stadium where I played in 1988.

We’re going in to the match tomorrow against TUNISIA (n°31) with a lot of team spirit and we’re committed to winning. The players’ morale is good. We realise that we can only count on ourselves. It’s going to be a difficult game but we’ll win. We’ve been hounded by the South American press, especially the Colombian press, but it hasn’t bothered us. We fear only one thing: Henry KASPERCZAK.

This is our third World Cup in a row. Let’s hope that this will be our year. We missed out against ROUMANIA (match n°15) but things will be different in MONTPELLIER because I’m sure the public will be behind us.

Both teams will suffer the same problem with the heat tomorrow, although in Barraquillea we’re used to high temperatures.

We’ll keep concentrating on the TUNISIA match until it’s over, and then we’ll start thinking about the match against ENGLAND (n°46) in LENS on June 26th.”

“We must live in the present and forget the past. I hope I’ll be able to give my team a lot of good opportunities.

If I don’t feel one hundred percent, I won’t play against TUNISIA.”

“The team is relaxed. We want to win and feel confident.”

“We didn’t run a lot of during the first match (n°15) against ROMANIA. We won’t make the same mistake against TUNISIA. I’m going to give it my all.”
