FRANCE 98 – Jouan ABANDA brought in to strengthen the CAMEROON (Group B) squad
To replace Serge KWETCHE (13), unavailable for health reasons, the CAMEROON coach, Claude LEROY has called up the 19-year-old defender Jouan ABANDA. Watched by the CAMEROON set-up for several months, he is currently with l’Espoir de Yaoundé, a club founded little more than a year ago and whose sponsor is Claude LEROY’s wife. ABANDA, suffered from a bout of malaria that ruled him out of the squad of 50 players from which the final 22 were chosen. He impressed the CAMEROON coach during the youth tournament which took place a few months ago in Turkey, where he was elected best player.
