FRANCE 98 – Yugoslavia – S. Santrac: “Our next match should be as good as the last one”
Comments from Saint-Galmier Monday 22 June
” Before the match against GERMANY, We were short of players. During this match, apart from a few weaknesses in defence, I thought I would keep the same tactics. YUGOSLAVIA could have played very well if we had had enough attackers and if our team had made use of all the pitch to prevent the opponents from getting too near our goal. As far as the players are concerned, it’s still too early to say anything about their injuries. We’ll see tomorrow how things stand. Three of our players have been injured, Zeljko PETROVIC (16) is suffering from a leg cramp, Darko KOVACEVIC (22) has a sore thigh and Miroslav DJUKIC (5) has an injured right calf. Even so, we played better against GERMANY than IRAN. But if we want a good team, we have to be more consistent. So our next match SHOULD as good as the last one. We’ve shown that we can be technically better than GERMANY. We had never played 90 minutes like that before. I’m quite satisfied with my team’s performance considering the fact that we had to change our game because of substitutions. Besides, that’s one of the tantalising aspects of football, everything can change over night. But all said and done, we achieved a result and as from today we’re starting to prepare the next match against the USA “.
