FRANCE 98 – The UNITED STATES team arrived in Lyon
The players of the American team arrived at the Satolas airport in LYON on Friday 5 June at 10 h 40. They were welcomed by the American Club of Lyon, made up of Americans residing in LYON, and the young players of the football club of Saint-Jean-d’Ardières. Very relaxed despite the long journey, the entire team reacted warmly to their reception. The coach, Steve SAMPSON, enthusiastically greeted the coaches of the LYON club. David REGIS, a Frenchman who became a naturalised American, said he was glad to be back on French soil. More than two tonnes of sports and medical equipment traveled with the UNITED STATES team.
The 42 members of the American delegation then headed for the Château de Pizay, their residence during the World Cup. This idyllic 100-hectare location in the middle of the Beaujolais, used by BRAZIL during the Tournoi de France, will also be home to the FRANCE team from 22 June onwards. After a few hours of rest and a press conference held by the American coach, the team went for a relaxed and light training session at the municipal stadium at Saint-Jean-d’Ardières.
They will have another training session on Saturday morning at 10 h 00 at the Stade de Fétan in Trévoux, in the Ain region.
