The FRANCE 98 Memo
More than just a standard screensaver, the FRANCE 98 Memo is an intelligent interactive graphic application which enables you to:
- call up the 32 teams.
- consult the match programme day to day, from the Opening Match on 10 June to the Final on 12 July.
- check out the possibilities of who could meet whom, and when, in the second round, and print it out.
- File away the “World Cup step by step” in your computer.

How it works:
1) To call up the teams:
Click on “The groups” and the 8 groups will appear on your screen one at a time, with profiles of each country. To get from one group to another click on the arrow on the right. To return to a previous group click on the arrow on the left.
2) Match programme:
Click on “1st round” and all first round matches will appear in chronological order. Click on “2nd round” and the second round programme will appear, without the names of the teams, obviously, which are as yet unknown. They will be filled in automatically as you enter the first round results.
3) Updating the match programme and filling in results: As of 10 June, the FRANCE 98 Memo will synchronise itself with your computer’s internal date without you having to lift a finger! The matches of the day will then appear automatically straight after the usual opening sequence. As soon as the match ends, you can enter the result in the appropriate place. Ex: Brazil-Scotland: 1-1. The FRANCE 98 Memo automatically incorporates this score into the results round-up which appears when you click on “1st Round”. When all the scores for all the matches in a group have been entered, the FRANCE 98 Memo calculates which teams have qualified for the second round—it even takes goal average into consideration—and automatically fills in the names of the qualified teams in the appropriate place in the “2nd Round” programme.
The two columns on the far left and far right of the “2nd Round” section will be filled out as soon as all the results from the first round have been entered. You can then enter the second round results directly here, in the appropriate place opposite the names of the teams. The next round will then be automatically updated, and so on right up to the Final.
Important:
a) A message which says “All the results have not been entered”, will warn you that all the scores have not been filled in. You can then enter the missing results in the appropriate place next to the displayed match.
b)You can also enter the match results directly in the “1st Round” section, in the appropriate place opposite the team names.
4) Possibilities: Click on “Possibilities” to contemplate, as from today, the various FRANCE 98 scenarios. Each team’s standing is listed above each pad (ex: first in group A, second in Group B). If you click here a drop-down menu will appear allowing you to select a team in the group concerned. The second round matches are updated automatically and a new menu appears, and so on, until the Final. Click on “Print” to print out your possible scenarios and compare them with your friend’s versions.
5) Screensavers:
If you don’t use the FRANCE 98 Memo for three minutes it goes into sleep mode on the opening sequences, showing the different groups and the matches of the day. Please note: You can turn off the speaker and use the screensaver in silent mode.
So be there on 10 June for a heart-stopping World Cup tournament, because nothing is more beautiful than a world at play….
