Chile’s star striker Ivan Zamorano said Monday he was raring to go and was looking forward to facing ‘adopted’ country Italy in the South Americans’ opening Group B match in Bordeaux on Thursday.
The Inter Milan striker had been rated as doubtful for the clash having missed training Sunday after suffering a bruised knee. But the 31-year-old stressed after taking part in light training on Monday that “neither I nor the coach ever thought I would miss the Italy game.”
Zamorano admitted however that he was “starting to get butterflies” ahead of the big event.
“Playing in the World Cup means so much to a player. I am playing in my first World Cup-and it might be my last-so I am planning to make the most of it,” Zamorano said.
On his side’s chances of beating the Italians, Zamorano said that “they have experience on their side. Their individual capabilities could clinch it at any moment. But we are very hopeful.”
