Robot footballers' World Cup, 4 to 8 July

The Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie de la Villette is currently hosting the Second Robot Football World Cup from 4 to 8 July between 10h00 and 18h00. The RoboCup is a high-tech football match developed by the world’s leading research laboratories. This new generation of footballers (small robots 3.5 to 50 centimetres tall) play independently and base their movement decisions on data sent from small cameras that target the pitch.

Twenty-one countries are participating in this demonstration which is open to the public. It will help scientists explain how these robots function and increase awareness about the robots’ technical and technological capabilities. More than 60 teams are playing each other in two halves of twent minutes each. A computer that independently generates commentary based on the match analyses commentates each meeting in a given language. The final match of this special World Cup will take place on 8 July.
