USA – Steve Sampson coach resigns
The United States Soccer Federation announced that Steve SAMPSON, the coach of the UNITED STATES team has handed in his notice this Monday, 29 June. “We thank Steve for the work he has done at the heart of the team,” declared Alan ROTHENBURG, the president of the USSF. “He has really helped to advance the game of soccer in this country and help it mature. I congratulate him”. The American federation has already set about looking for a successor to Steve SAMPSON. His successor will be named one month after the end of the 1998 World Cup. Steve SAMPSON took over from Bora MILUTOVIC on 2 August 1995. His record consists of 26 victories, 14 draws and 22 defeats. His best results consist of a 3-0 victory over ARGENTINA during the 1995 American Cup, and a 1-0 success over BRAZIL during the 1998 Gold Cup.
