Brazil-France – Y. Djorkaeff: “We completely suffocated Brazil, the world's greatest footballing nation”

Youri DJORKAEFF (6):

I simply can’t explain how happy I feel. I’m so proud. FRANCE was in the Final for the first time and we gave it all we had. In the past we weren’t mentally strong enough to win. This time around we moved up a gear. We played the perfect game tonight. We completely suffocated Brazil, the world’s greatest footballing nation. We have missed the contact with the public over the past few weeks but tomorrow we’ll go down the Champs-Elysées like champions. Tomorrow we’ll be proud to be French.”

David TREZEGUET (20):

I couldn’t be happier. We’re going to party all night. We’ve worked so hard for the last two months. At the final whistle I thought about my family in the stadium. I cried. Winning the World Cup on your home soil doesn’t happen everyday. We played well tactically and we were all in excellent shape physically. Before the kick-off my Argentinian friends all called me to say they were right behind us and they were hoping FRANCE would beat BRAZIL.

Marcel Desailly (8):

“I got booked for no good reason which led to me getting sent off. I’m both disappointed because I’ve been sent off and at the same time the happiest man alive. I’ll always remember Aimé JACQUET being on our shoulders with the World Cup in his hands.”
