Italy – R. Baggio: “At this stage in the competition there are no longer any favourites”

Comments from the Parc des sports, Senlis after the ITALY team training session.

Dino BAGGIO (11):

“It’s wrong to compare me with Zinedine ZIDANE. It’s inaccurate too to say that he’s one of the best players in the world. He’s the number one in his position. RONALDO is a forward and he’s probably the best. My job is to bring what I can to the ITALY team and I will play this match like any other”.

Alessandro DEL PIERO (10):

“Well here we are… We’re up against our French team mates and friends. The match will be very intense and the level will be very high. There will be many players that we encounter regularly and some that we know well. This match will be like a final. The pressure will be the same for both teams, but FRANCE will feel it even more because they are playing at home”.

Roberto BAGGIO (18):

“When you reach this stage in the competition there are no longer any favourites. Everybody has a chance. FRANCE is a very strong team, based on a solid defence, along with exceptional ball-winners in midfield. Didier DESCHAMPS is one of them, I knew him at Juventus (1995) where I appreciated not only the player but the person”.
