Argentina and England history
The first meeting between ARGENTINA and ENGLAND was during the 1962 World Cup in CHILE. During the first round, (group 4), the English beat the Argentinians by three goals to one before being knocked out in the quarterfinals (1-3) against BRAZIL who later won the Cup. Before playing in the famous 1966 final against GERMANY, (4-2), ENGLAND eliminated ARGENTINA in the quarterfinals by one goal to nil. 20 years later, during the Mexican World Cup of 86, ARGENTINA won the title against GERMANY, (3-2). Just before, the Argentinians knocked ENGLAND out of the tournament (2-1) during the quarterfinals; this was an unlucky meeting where Diego MARADONA scored the deciding goal. In the final stages of past World Cups, ARGENTINA have only met ENGLAND three times and ENGLAND are leading by two victories to one.
