England – A. Shearer: “We are really confident and one could even say calm”
Comments from La Baule, Sunday 28 June:
“Our convincing victory against COLOMBIA has given me great confidence before our match against ARGENTINA in the second round. We are really confident and one could even say calm. However, I am nonetheless aware that it will be a tough match and we’ll have to stop Gabriel BATISTUTA (9). If we achieve this, all is possible and the winner of this ARGENTINA – ENGLAND match will be in a good place to reach the finals. People are still talking about the famous 1986 match, but we’re not here for revenge and anyway none of today’s players are directly concerned. At that time, I was sixteen years old and on holiday. I was just disappointed by the result, that’s all.”
“I know that I played well against COLOMBIA and am happy to be back to my peak level. Now I can calmly look forward to the rest of the competition.”
