South Africa goalkeeper Andre Arendse could be out of the World Cup after picking up a ankle ligament injury in training.
Arendse hurt his knee during shooting practice on Monday and was unable to join fellow stoppers Hans Vonk and Bryan Baloyi for a separate goalkeeping session on Tuesday.
A team spokesman confirmed the 30-year-old Fulham player, who is currently the South Africans’ third choice ‘keeper, had gone to see a doctor in Vichy to discover the extent of the injury and said a decision on Arendse’s fitness would be announced on Wednesday.
Skipper Lucas Radebe of Leeds, suffering a bruised heel sustained on Saturday against Iceland in a friendly, underwent light training on Tuesday evening in a behind closed doors session.
