Comments from SAINT-ETIENNE:

Alberto GARCIA ASPE (8), captain

“This match will be the hardest we’ve played in this group. We dominated BELGIUM and SOUTH KOREA but I don’t think we’ll beat our next opponents so easily. HOLLAND are extremely well prepared physically and mentally, but we also have a great mental capacity as we proved when we came back and drew during our first two matches. This will to win is important but I don’t know whether it’s sufficient. Others qualities are necessary. With the help of god we’ll play a great game and win. The MEXICO that is playing today is highly offensive and can therefore beat HOLLAND.

Jorge CAMPOS (1)

“We’ve trained a lot this week. We have to pay great attention to HOLLAND, as all the players are very dangerous. Also, we must be very careful, as they are all attack-minded. We’re only interested in a win. The results of the first matches have prepared us mentally.

Marcelino BERNAL (6)

“All the matches that we’ve played during this World Cup have been very hard. The games are at a very high level, which is highly motivating. Tomorrow will be the same and anything can happen: we can win and get through to the second round, but we could also be beaten and go home, it’s heads or tails.”

Jesus RAMIREZ (7)

“I’m delighted for my career and also for my country. But if we qualify it’s above all a team result and not an individual result. HOLLAND demand respect, but not too much. We’re going to play our kind of football and make the most of all our opponents’ errors.”

Ricardo PELAEZ (9)

“HOLLAND is in the leading group at world wide level. During our friendly against this team we noticed some very strong players. We can look forward to this match with a cool head as we’re relatively well prepared.”

Cuauhtemoc BLANCO (11)

“We’re all very fit and the team is strongly motivated to impose our way of playing on HOLLAND. It’s a win, nothing else, or we go home. To win we have to play a very strong game and always be on the attack. Our success will require that we put the pressure on at all times in the four corners of the pitch”

Raul LARA (14)

“Team work and cohesion are the trump cards we’ll use to beat HOLLAND. We shall put them under strong pressure and play short passes at a high pace.”

Luis HERNANDEZ (15)

“I’m very confident. The medical treatment I have been given has been very beneficial. My injury is much better and I sincerely think that I will not need an infiltration to obtain my place against HOLLAND. My leg no longer hurts even though it sometimes hinders me, which should soon disappear. This week has been very tough, as I have not been able to train normally. We’re expecting a very tough match. We’re going to play as we normally play, very offensively. We’re under a lot of pressure but are very confident. We’re going to try to write a page of history.

Isaac TERRAZAS (16)

“Tomorrow we must stay united and work as a team, especially in attack. The cohesion of HOLLAND proved its worth during the previous matches. We must adapt our game in order to keep them under control.”

Salvador CARMONA (18)

“Team training was very good before the match tomorrow. We’re very strong from all points of view. The HOLLAND team plays very intelligently. Despite all we don’t fear a specific player but the entire team demands all our respect.”

Braulio LUNA (19)

HOLLAND are highly experienced and extremely well prepared. It’s one of the World Cup favourites. Our match against HOLLAND is one of the most important in the tournament. We’re responsible for our qualification, even if we have a little chance. We must be a solid team and not play individually. We’re calm headed, ready to win and get our qualification.”

Oscar PEREZ (22)

The match against HOLLAND will be difficult as we are playing against one of the best teams in the world. We’re going to continue to play in the same way as in the previous matches and go get it. With regards to refereeing problems, I think that they do what they can but we shouldn’t only count on them when decisions concern match results.”
