The World Cup for schoolchildren
The Rhône regional council is organising a World Cup warm up for schoolchildren in the form of a football tournament, the finals of which are to take place on 10 June at the “parc départemental de Parilly”, near Lyon. Each team captain is to receive a complete set of strips in the colours of the 32 qualified nations. 600 tickets will also be up for grabs for games at Gerland stadium.
In addition, for the six match days at Lyon, the regional council will be offering free entry to four museums: the Muséum d’Histoire Naturelle, the Musée Gallo-Romain de Fourvière, the Musée de Saint-Romain in Gal-Vienne and the Château de la Poupée in Marcy l’Etoile.
5,000 language students who have undergone training in welcoming and receiving visitors will also be on hand to help spectators. These students, easily recognisable by their “Bonjour 98, le Rhône accueille le Monde” logos, will be working at strategic points in the city: the centre, the stadium, and so on.
