Screens of the World Cup 98″ Caravans Roaming France
Roaming France since 10 June, “Screens of the World Cup 98” caravans have been going to major French cities to screen broadcasts of live matches, as well as to provide entertainment, concerts, shows, etc… In a recent survey, the French overwhelmingly supported the World Cup: 93% of them called it a festival for the people, while over 80% said that the words “show” and “celebration” best describe football. The French ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has obtained free broadcasting rights for World Cup matches to be shown in more than 800 urban areas classified as “sensitive zones”. The ministry designed and created this initiative with the backing of L’Oroléis de PARIS, FRANCE TELECOM, the official telecommunications operator for FRANCE 98, the Française des Jeux foundation, the Regional council of the Île-de-France region and the National association of Chèques Vacances. With over 100 participating local communities, it is one of the largest popular celebrations organised for the World Cup.
