Caterpillar: proud sponsor of the World Cup
CATERPILLAR emphasised its ongoing commitment to global sports and entertainment when it announced that it would supply the power and temperature control equipment for the International Media Centre at the World Cup for FRANCE 98.
Michael Jackson’s world tour; Guns ‘n’ Roses concerts; the Barcelona Summer Olympics; the Winter Olympics in Albertville and Lillehammer. These may all seem like an unrelated group of events, but they all share one common factor: CATERPILLAR electrical power generation equipment.
CATERPILLAR is a leading world supplier of Electric Power Generation Equipment and has a vast amount of experience in the power generation industry. This experience, and a world-wide reputation for delivering reliable, durable electric power, were key factors in the selection of CATERPILLAR as an equipment supplier to the World Cup France ‘98. CATERPILLAR dealer Bergerat Monnoyeur Energie and CATERPILLAR subsidiary Cat
Rental Power have teamed up to supply 10 MW of electrical power as well as the temporary cooling equipment for the World Cup International Media Centre that accommodates over 12,000 journalists over a five week period of competition. Los Angeles based Showpower Inc. operates the equipment.
The temporary electrical power is provided by six CATERPILLAR Power Modules, each powered by a Cat 3516 generator set. Temperature control and cooling for the 10,000 m2 space is provided by 300 tonnes of Cat chiller packages.
CATERPILLAR is clearly proud to be associated with the World Cup project. Upon receiving the project award, Mikhael Doueihi, Electric Power Generation Manager of CATERPILLAR Overseas SA, said: “We are honoured to contribute to the organisation and success of the 16th World Cup. This affiliation demonstrates CATERPILLAR’s desire to maintain its presence at important international sporting events and confirms our leading role in the power systems business.”
